03 Honda Shadow 600

pushing 8000 miles now.  My last trip was 1700 miles from Monterey, CA to Wichita Falls, TX.  I'm heading east to SC soon.  I've been studying, writing, meeting, couch surfing and helping for 11 months.  My year of volunteer work is almost over and I have to be a big kid and get to work.  Keep in mind that this site is a work-in-progress.       

Best trip: July 4th weekend with a friend.  We went to Tres Pinos rally, Vacaville rally and show, and spent a couple of days in Sacramento.  It was definitely the highlight of the past 8 months.

I put on a new tire about 1000 miles ago.   The last service was 700 miles ago; that included change of oil, lamp, oil filter, and air filter.  I also cleaned the clutch cable, carborator flush, and chain lube.  Apparently I did not get my chrome cover tight enough on the air filter, so it's not there anymore.  Came off on 287 to TX at 90 mph.  I looked back, and all I saw was yet another semi barrelling down the highway.   I was too scared of them to leave the bike on the edge of the margin-less road to walk back as far as was necessary to find out if it MIGHT be findable and not broken.  Paint is good, but has one smaller-than-penny size chip.  It's not spreading, because it has been touched up.  You can see it in the "My View" pic.  There's a little rust here and there, but not excessive.   The saddle bags are in great shape, but the buckles are wicked rusted.   I think it's because the buckles aren't used due to the more accessible plastic clips.  Right now the rear tire has a little tread, but I would give it approx 2000 more before a change is needed.
